History Of Board Games

The history of board games can be traced back to more than 4000 years. These games were very popular in ancient Greece and Rome. The earliest board games that have been discovered are more than 3,500 years old. However, the oldest broad game found thus so far is “The Royal Game of Ur” and it was discovered by Sir Leonard Woolley during 1926- 1927 in royal tombs what is now called Iraq. Within these tombs it has been found out that many classes of people in that society used to play different four board games of the same basic design representing one game.

When we look into the origin of online board games, we came to know that one early board game named S'n't, lately known as Senet or Senat was also found in different ancient Egyptian tombs. A magnificent board was also found buried with Tutankhamen. The hieroglyph representing a Senet game is found honoring a king and it dates back to 3100 B.C.E.
